About the Role

The Scheduling Coordinator – Surgery / Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) coordinates the daily surgical schedule while supporting the operational needs of Perioperative Services. This dual-role position serves as the primary liaison between physician offices, patients, anesthesia, nursing, and ancillary departments to ensure accurate scheduling, efficient resource utilization, and seamless communication. The role also maintains competency as a Certified Surgical Technologist and may provide direct patient care as a scrub technologist during scheduled shifts or when operational needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Receives scheduling requests from physician offices for surgical and procedural cases, ensuring complete and accurate patient information is obtained.
  • Reviews and verifies physician orders, required documentation, implants, equipment requests, and special scheduling needs prior to scheduling procedures.
  • Communicates schedule changes promptly with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, physician offices, and ancillary departments.
  • Exercises sound judgment while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when communicating with physicians, staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Prepares, compiles, and maintains patient surgical records and scheduling documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Assists with maintaining surgeon preference information, scheduling templates, and scheduling accuracy.
  • Assists with orientation and training of new staff members on scheduling processes and electronic scheduling systems.
  • Maintains proficiency in both scheduling systems and surgical technology competencies, including required certifications and continuing education.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of perioperative experience as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Previous Surgery Scheduling or Perioperative Coordination Experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of operating room workflow, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and hospital scheduling systems preferred.

Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
  • BLS Certification.
