Responsibilities
- Schedule all outpatient surgeries and procedures as requested by the physician or the physician’s office staff.
- Obtain and add patient demographics and insurance information into the billing system.
- Contact payers to verify patient benefits and obtain necessary authorization.
- Coordinate efforts with the Director of Nursing to ensure availability of needed equipment, requested staff, and/or ancillary services.
- Prepare and distribute the daily surgery schedule to Nursing Managers, RNs, Pre-Op and PACU Nurses and Technicians, and the Business Office Manager.
- Capture complete and accurate clinical, demographic, and insurance information on patients scheduled at the surgery center.
- Communicate same-day and next-day add-on cases to the Director of Nursing and other appropriate employees.
- Communicate any potential scheduling conflicts to the Director of Nursing.
- Promptly communicate any patient problems to the Business Office Manager and/or Director of Nursing.
- Maintain positive communications with medical staff members and their office personnel.
- Track cancellations and monitor, maintain, and release block time.
- Prepare daily bank deposits for monies received at the surgery center.
- Cross-train to cover the front desk for lunches, breaks, and extended absences of the Receptionist/Admitting Clerk, as well as in medical records, chart preparation, collections, and patient account advocacy duties.
- Perform other clerical duties as directed by the Business Office Manager.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one (1) year of scheduling experience in an ambulatory surgery facility, acute-care hospital, or doctor’s office.
- Attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
Pay
USD $22.00–$23.00 per year.
