Scenic Carpenter
Queensbury Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering professional and educational theatre programs. Located in CityCentre, Queensbury is the only professional theatre in West Houston. The theatre produces, creates, and cultivates professional, ground-breaking, and affordable musicals and plays on an intimate level. Queensbury also houses and operates the Tribble School for the Performing Arts, serving 350-400 students and their families per semester. The facility features a 250-seat proscenium theatre and a 100-seat black box theatre.
About the Role
Queensbury’s Overhire Scenic Carpenter works as part of the scenic team and is responsible for constructing scenic elements for productions, basic scene shop operations, collaborating with staff on the build, load-in, and load-out of scenery, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Constructing scenery and set pieces
- Collaborating with staff on a regular basis to ensure safe and efficient build, installation, and strike of scenery
- Participation in the load-in and strike of productions
- Maintaining a safe and tidy work and shop environment
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Actively engaging in education and development of anti-oppressive and inclusive practices and policies in the scene shop and theatre-wide
- Related duties as assigned by the Production Manager
Requirements
- Construction experience necessary
- Skill in woodworking, framing, finish carpentry, metal working, welding, and bending
- Training in safe operation of stationary and portable power tools and hand tools
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively
- Detail-oriented with excellent multitasking and prioritization abilities
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing at work table
- Ability to regularly move and lift 30-50 lbs
- Work at heights up to 30 feet on regular ladder and personnel lifts

Schedule
Typical hours are during the day, but the position requires flexibility to be available for weekend, holidays, and evening work hours as needed.
