About the role

The Foreman supervises and coordinates skilled and unskilled workers on various construction projects such as highway structures, right-of-way clearing, pile driving, subgrade preparation, road surfacing, curb installation, underground utilities, traffic control, concrete paving, and related lime and dirt work. The role focuses on scheduling work safely, adhering to plans and specifications, and meeting cost objectives while maintaining strong relationships with inspectors, developers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise skilled and semi-skilled hourly employee-owners

Responsibilities

  • Manage a small onsite equipment fleet
  • Recruit hourly trade personnel
  • Execute “Look Ahead” schedules
  • Manage craftsmen, equipment, and material resources
  • Plan logistics and execute project Work Plans
  • Ensure crews work productively and efficiently to meet daily cost objectives
  • Provide training for craftsmen
  • Purchase unincorporated materials, tools, and supplies
  • Review contract documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine work scope, materials, and manpower requirements
  • Execute Work Plans for major work components and monitor adherence
  • Order self-perform materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers
  • Monitor daily labor costs and production rates for accuracy and budget conformance; take corrective action as needed
  • Encourage innovative methods to increase efficiency, productivity, and profitability
  • Provide feedback and coaching on work progress
  • Execute hourly time card reporting
  • Maintain all equipment assigned to crew and conduct preventive maintenance training
  • Store all equipment properly at the end of each day
  • Develop detailed daily and weekly construction plans to stay within schedule
  • Manage scheduling of QA/QC inspections for owner acceptance
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure it meets established tolerances; take corrective action when needed
  • Manage crew effectively to create a coordinated and motivating work environment
  • Foster training and development through on-the-job and company-sponsored programs
  • Recommend personnel actions such as promotions, discharges, and disciplinary measures
  • Supervise subcontractors to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Conduct Tool Box and JHA Safety Meetings on accident prevention topics
  • Enforce all safety regulations and company policies
  • Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and quality
  • Ensure compliance with plans and specifications
  • Complete project closeout tasks, including punch lists and demobilization
  • Maintain detailed and accurate daily reports of field construction activities
  • Ensure equipment is used correctly for its intended purpose
  • Interpret and disseminate company policies, including Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
  • Conduct on-the-job training and record hours on Foreman’s Daily Control
  • Complete Foreman’s Daily Control with employee hours, job numbers, cost codes, and quantities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States (Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position)
  • 5+ years of industrial and supervisory experience preferred

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach
  • May require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work at elevations, on uneven surfaces, or in confined spaces
  • Sufficient visual, hearing, communication, and motor skills to safely perform job responsibilities
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage stress and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
