About the role

This person will construct, assemble, maintain, and dismantle tubular scaffolding or other temporary structures. A minimum of 3 years of experience is required within the Scaffolding craft. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Determines type of scaffold needed.
  • Inspects job site and all scaffold material for defects and safety hazards.
  • Effectively communicates safety hazards and mitigates avoidable hazards prior to construction of scaffolding.
  • Transports tubular scaffold or other structural material and erects the scaffold to the dimensions required.
  • Hoists scaffolding materials upward in order to erect temporary structure.
  • Properly secures and levels locking sections of scaffolding material.
  • Properly secures scaffold to the permanent structure for added stability.
  • Adheres to all OSHA, site specific and Austin Industrial requirements for the erecting and navigation of the scaffolding.
  • Performs final inspection of completed scaffolding.
  • Dismantles scaffolding when it has been properly communicated to do so.
  • Inspects and properly stows scaffolding material after dismantling.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the Scaffolding craft.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • TWIC Card and Valid State ID.
  • Legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States (Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position).

Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Fluent in English (reading and speaking) for safety reasons.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May directly supervise 1 to 5 scaffold builder helpers in the Operations Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Austin Industrial’s policies and applicable laws.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and vibration.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
