About the role
The SCADA Developer role develops and supports SCADA applications and integrations. This role ensures system reliability through troubleshooting, production support, and on-call participation while collaborating with Operations, Automation, Engineering, Measurement, and IT teams to improve system performance, data quality, and the overall user experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Ignition Perspective applications, views, templates, and reusable components.
- Develop Python/Jython scripts for application logic, data processing, tag management, integrations, reporting, and system automation.
- Create and maintain SQL queries, named queries, stored procedures, and database integrations used by SCADA applications.
- Build clear, responsive operator interfaces, dashboards, trends, alarm displays, and data-entry workflows that support field and control-room operations.
- Configure and maintain Ignition tags, UDTs, tag history, alarms, alarm journals, and related gateway resources.
- Troubleshoot application, scripting, database, communication, and data-quality issues across the SCADA system.
- Work closely with Operations, Automation, Measurement, Engineering, and IT teams to define requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Support the integration of PLCs, RTUs, OPC servers, MQTT systems, APIs, and other operational data sources with the SCADA platform.
- Improve application performance, reliability, maintainability, and consistency through standards, code reviews, testing, and reusable design patterns.
- Document application changes, scripts, database objects, system configurations, and support procedures, and maintain version-controlled project backups.
- Follow change-management, cybersecurity, access-control, and testing standards for production SCADA systems.
- Participate in production support and an on-call rotation, including troubleshooting critical SCADA issues when needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

- Basic SQL skills, including SELECT statements, joins, filtering, grouping, inserts, updates, and parameterized queries.
- Understanding of SCADA concepts such as tags, UDTs, alarms, historian data, OPC communications, and quality and timestamp handling.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify root causes across application, database, and field-data layers.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical users, manage priorities, and work independently in a production environment.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Automation, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Ignition 8.1, SQL Server, Snowflake, REST APIs, reporting, and Git or other version-control tools.
- Experience in oil and gas production, midstream, measurement, or field operations.
- Familiarity with PLCs, RTUs, industrial protocols, OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, DNP3, and telemetry networks.
