SCA UXO Tech II (Gallup, NM field location)

About the Role

Join Parsons in making the world a safer place through expertise in unexploded ordnance (UXO). This role involves reconnaissance, classification, and removal of UXO from affected communities as part of our Federal Solutions team.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties of a UXO Technician II as outlined in DDESB TP 18, including meeting criteria for and performing functions of a UXO-TI.
• Store explosive materials in accordance with applicable guidance, including preparing on-site holding areas for temporary storage and securing of MEC or MPPEH and other explosives (e.g., donor charges).
• Determine and record the location of subsurface anomalies, surface MEC, and other material of interest using techniques such as global positioning equipment and land navigation in a field environment.
• Perform field collection and testing procedures to identify explosives-contaminated media or material (e.g., equipment used for load-assemble-pack of military munitions).
• Inspect and document the explosives safety status of MPPEH.
• Supervise, as required, SWs, SP, and UXO-TIs.
• Investigate for and identify MEC and MPPEH, including explosive residues in media (e.g., soil), buildings, and installed equipment.
• Identify different types of military munitions, including determining whether a military munition’s fuse is armed or unarmed.
• Excavate subsurface anomalies for identification.
• Move MEC within a munitions response site (MRS) or on an operational range after joint evaluation and documentation by the UXOSO and SUXOS that the risk of movement is acceptable.
• Operate vehicles moving explosives or MPPEH on-site, with appropriate licensing for the class of vehicle being operated.
• Transport military munitions, commercial explosives, and MDEH that meet specific criteria and have been determined safe for transport over public traffic routes (PTRs), complying with DOT and other applicable federal and state laws and DoD policies.
• Prepare electric and non-electric firing systems.
• Set up decontamination stations and decontaminate CA-contaminated personnel, military munitions, and other material of interest (e.g., munitions debris, glass vials) in accordance with approved plans.
• Assist UXOQP in documenting the explosives safety status of MPPEH.
• Construct engineering controls (protective works).

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a UXO Technician I or graduation from military EOD school.
