About Us
The SBA Underwriter II position at Windsor Advantage supports lenders in processing SBA 7(a) and USDA loans. Windsor Advantage is a leading Lender Service Provider that assists banks, credit unions, and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) in implementing government-guaranteed lending initiatives.
Position Purpose
The SBA Underwriter II will assist lenders with loan requests by preparing pre-assessments, borrower and lender checklists, document collections, and Credit Summaries for SBA eligibility. They will also communicate with lenders to ensure loan structures comply with SBA guidelines.
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyze the creditworthiness of loan applicants by spreading financial statements.
- Manage loan applications and assist lenders with loan preparation, including sources and uses of funds.
- Review construction budgets, inventory lists, and other financial documents to assess adequacy of assets.
- Prepare a collateral table and assess the adequacy of assets using SBA liquidation percentages.
- Discuss business overview, including description, history, products/services, management, and competition.
- Analyze and spread historical and projected financial documents to determine cash flow and repayment capacity.
- Determine break-even points and perform what-if scenarios.
- Compare business ratios to RMA standards and discuss the impact on the business.
- Spread personal financial statements and credit reports to assess the creditworthiness of principals and guarantors.
- Prepare pro-forma balance sheets and discuss ratios such as debt to tangible net worth.
- Perform SBA eligibility analysis, including size standard analysis or alternate size standard analysis.
- Review CAIVRS reports and Sam.gov reports to ensure no debarment from federal government contracts.
- Work with the Underwriting Team to improve the underwriting process and enhance the client experience.
- Support the packager/closer team for a seamless transition to the next stage of the SBA process.
- Assist in screening out unsuitable loan requests, preparing credit addendums, and writing memos to the file.
- Support organizational initiatives and ensure the security and confidentiality of customer information.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 3 years of commercial loans and/or SBA/USDA loan experience.
- Recent underwriting experience in a high-volume environment with full knowledge of SBA loan programs, regulations, and procedures.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of SBA Loan Programs and eligibility criteria.
- Knowledge of credit analysis, including sources and uses of proceeds, collateral analysis, and financial ratio benchmarks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively and solve problems efficiently.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer systems relevant to commercial lending activities.
Compensation
Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $95,000 annually. Annual target bonus based on individual performance.
