About the Role
The SBA Eligibility Review Officer III reviews SBA and USDA guaranteed business loans to determine proper structure and ensure compliance with SBA and USDA eligibility requirements.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the subject matter expert in SBA servicing procedures and consults on government guaranteed loan programs for sales, underwriting, and closing colleagues.
- Maintains an individual pipeline of work, handling loans of advanced complexity with customer exposure up to $5 million.
- Assesses eligibility of borrowers, co-borrowers, and guarantors to ensure the SBA guarantee can be enforced if needed.
- Interacts with internal SBA Sales and Operations teams to facilitate understanding of SBA and USDA loan programs, gather eligibility information, and communicate decisions.
- Reviews use of proceeds, orders SBA numbers, prepares SBA Loan Authorization and other forms, ensuring compliance with SBA/USDA requirements.
- Evaluates franchise agreements, purchase agreements, bank notes, and business plans to confirm terms and conditions of SBA credit approval are met.
- Researches and resolves complex servicing questions from the SBA and internal personnel to maintain the guaranty.
- Advises Financial Recovery Group (FRG) colleagues on working out, liquidating, and litigating SBA loans, and submits final wrap-up reports to the SBA.
- Serves as the main point of contact for commercial loan servicing colleagues to ensure proper accounting and reporting of SBA loans (1502 Report).
- Assists with training and mentoring new hires and supports the SBA ERO I and II job families.
- Performs additional tasks to support the line of business and job family as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of HNB SBA/USDA lending or due diligence experience, or a minimum of 7 years of direct SBA/USDA lending or due diligence experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Economics.
- Knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Ability to document and communicate eligibility conditions clearly in accordance with SBA SOPs.
- Experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and multitasking ability.
- Confidence, assertiveness, professionalism, and ability to interact with all organizational levels.
- Knowledge of SBA/USDA loan programs.
- TSoft and SBA Etran experience.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, AFS, and Velocity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external customer service.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to document transaction risks and mitigants concisely.
Schedule
Exempt status: Yes (not eligible for overtime pay).
Workplace Type: Office. Certain positions may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement, combining in-office and remote work.
Pay
Compensation Range: $77,000 - $154,000 annual salary. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and education. Eligible for an applicable incentive compensation plan.
