About the Role
This position is responsible for attracting new SBA loan customers through internal referral sources (primarily the bank’s lending staff) as well as external referral sources (e.g., business brokers, CPAs, commercial realtors). The primary role includes serving as a liaison for internal lending staff by educating them on various SBA programs and helping them target potential loan opportunities. This also involves assisting internal lending officers in qualifying and structuring potential SBA loan opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Makes business development calls on existing and potential new clients.
- Determines SBA eligibility and helps structure loan requests.
- Completes a thorough summary of loan requests and gathers needed information for Underwriting staff to enable quick analysis.
- Works independently and is self-motivated.
- Provides education to internal lending staff on the various SBA programs the bank participates in.
- Represents the bank in civic and community functions to enhance its image and develop new business.
- Promotes a favorable image of the bank in all business activities within the community.
- Performs other duties as requested by the SBA Director or Sales Manager.
- Completes all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.
- Adheres to all First United Policies and Procedures.
- Dresses professionally.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field.
- Five or more years of small business lending or small business underwriting in a bank, preferably with SBA lending experience.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate the advantages of SBA programs with prospective customers and win the confidence of internal banking officers.
- Sales or marketing experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication, sales, and public relations skills.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of the SBA lending program as specified in the most recent Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability and willingness to guide customers through the SBA process.
- Computer and software proficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and informatively to customers and lending staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a wide range of people.
