Saw Vacuum Form Operator

About the role

Set up and operate machine tools such as vacuum box or friction saw to form and/or cut metallic and nonmetallic work pieces to blueprint tolerance. Duties will vary based on the assigned machine or task.

Responsibilities

• Vertical high-speed friction saw: lay out parts by scribing net lines and cutting within .100 of lines
• Order blueprints and fixtures to determine net areas of parts
• Grind and deburr all parts for safe handling at the next operation
• Change broken blades as needed
• Maintain clean and organized work area per 6s checklist
• Vacuum Forming: set up and operate vacuum press to form sheet metal into structural shapes
• Load and unload parts and dies into vacuum press
• Start and stop chart recorder that logs time and temperature
• Obtain quality buyoff on parts and chart record; check own work and take first part to quality inspection
• Adjust process for additional parts to keep within control limits for SPC as needed
• Collect SPC data according to the control plan attached to the work order
• Cross-trained in Blast department
• Responsible for proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in the work area
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training
• Math skills: decimals, percentages, fractions
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Mylars
• Ability to operate a forklift
• Proficiency with measuring instruments including calipers, protractor, tape measure, height gage, and scales
• Prior operation of machinery helpful
• Ability to read and understand internal procedures and policies
• Ability to follow through on both verbal and written instructions
• Team-oriented with a continuous improvement outlook
• Basic computer skills; able to learn new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance
