About the role
The Saw Operator partners with the production team and Plant Manager to fabricate and cut foam materials according to customer specifications and production schedules. This on-site, union role is based at the Dubuque, IA facility, a 10-employee plant specializing in polyurethane foam products for industrial and specialty applications.
Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture by following all safety protocols, identifying hazards, and supporting continuous improvement in plant safety practices.
- Operate equipment (band saws, circular saws, etc.) to cut foam materials according to production schedules and customer specifications.
- Monitor cutting processes to ensure products meet quality standards, making precise measurements and adjustments as needed.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance including cleaning, blade changes, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting to maintain operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate production records including quantities produced, materials used, and any operational issues encountered.
- Communicate equipment malfunctions, material concerns, or safety risks promptly to the Plant Manager or maintenance team.
- Collaborate with production team members to ensure efficient workflow, meet shipping deadlines, and support overall plant performance goals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready work area in alignment with company standards and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in machining or manufacturing preferred.
- Previous experience operating saw equipment or working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of various saw types, cutting techniques, and material handling procedures.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow precise specifications and measurements accurately.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely set up, adjust, and troubleshoot equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret production orders and work instructions.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team-oriented production environment.
