Satellite Boiler Operator
Position Details
The University of Vermont is seeking a Satellite Boiler Operator to operate, repair and maintain steam and hydronic heating systems and its associated equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The position involves contacting building occupants, updating building operations, communicating with various university personnel, and managing utility resources. The role also includes operating University vehicles and promoting a safe workplace.
- Contact building occupants as required
- Update building operations to ensure maximum energy conservation
- Communicate with a variety of university personnel

- Access information utilizing appropriate desktop applications
- Promote a workplace that encourages safety within the Shop and field

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
High school diploma, vocational courses, and three years of experience in heating and/or cooling systems maintenance. Required certifications include VT Fuel Oil Burning Equipment Installer (Limited) Certificate and a VT Natural Gas Certification or the ability to obtain within one year. Familiarity with boiler automation systems is also required. Effective verbal communication skills are necessary, along with a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one. Experience using computers is required, and comfort in confined spaces and heights is beneficial. Specific physical requirements may vary based on job functions. An initial employment offer is contingent upon passing a background check.

- Probationary period may be required
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime)
- External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period
