Qualifications

Election Inspectors are a critical part of America’s democracy. Elections simply could not be done without inspectors. They are on the frontline of ensuring access to the polls. For every election, each party must have up to two inspectors assigned to each election district. Inspectors for both parties must also be present for a Primary Election, regardless of the party holding the election. Registered voters who are not members of any party are still eligible to be election inspectors.

Primary And General Election Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be pleasant and courteous to all voters & fellow inspectors
  • Be able to speak, read, & write English
  • Be a registered voter in Saratoga County if 18 or older
  • Be at least 17 years old
  • Attend annual inspector training
  • Be familiar/willing to get familiar with using iPads and printers

Early Voting Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must attend annual Election Day & Early Voting Training
  • Must have worked at least 1 Election Day prior
  • Required to work Election Day as well
  • Only the Board of Elections staff schedule Early Voting Inspectors
  • Inspectors will not be assigned to work every day of Early Voting

Work Hours

The polls are open on Election Day 6am-9pm. The polls are open during Early Voting either 9am-5pm or 12pm-8pm. Inspectors are required to arrive 30 minutes prior to the polls opening and stay until after the polls close.

Pay Rates

  • Election Day: $260/day
  • Early Voting: $150/day
  • Training: $25 for attending training

Training

Inspectors are required to attend annual training. Training is held at the Board of Elections Office at varying times and dates. Current Election Inspectors can access training documents by logging into our secure training page.
