Responsibilities

• Perform heavy manual labor and other related duties in connection with the collection and disposal of refuse.
• Operate vehicles and heavy equipment, and power and hand tools used in the collection and disposal of refuse.
• Learn to operate various types of equipment and tools.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Adapt to new technologies, work processes, and equipment.
• Complete and submit department forms when required.
• Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
• Identify different types of waste and recycling in order to audit residential containers.
• Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid Driver’s License, Class C or higher.
• Ability to learn and apply laws, rules, and regulations related to refuse and disposal.
• Understand and follow department policies and procedures.
• Learn basic arithmetic, English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Understand and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
• Make arithmetical computations accurately and rapidly.
• Maintain confidential information.
• Read, understand, and adhere to County and department policies and procedures relating to area of assignment.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a valid Driver’s License, Class C or higher.
• General Qualifications: Criminal History and Background Checks, License Requirement, Physical Requirements, Working Conditions.

Skills

Knowledge of Computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases and other specialized applications related to area of assignment.

Two-way radio communication devices and other related equipment.

Basic arithmetic (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, percentages, ratios, and fractions).

English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Basic principles and practices of waste disposal and recycling.
