About the Role

Under close supervision, operates a truck and collection mechanisms to collect, compact and dispose of solid waste materials.

Responsibilities

• Operates controls for lifting dumpsters and containers and emptying them into the truck, compacts and unloads waste from truck.
• Performs preventive maintenance check including but not limited to checking lights and fluid levels, washes truck, and refills fuel tank.
• Supports driver in safety measures which includes backing and watching for hazards.
• Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

• Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent AND six months' experience working in sanitation or a recycling plant; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Knowledge Of City and Department policies and procedures.
• Safety policies, practices, and procedures.
• Skills In Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
• Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing; following instructions.

License and Certification Requirements

• A New Mexico State Class D Driver's License is required.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Work is performed in a standard office environment.

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records, and other records deemed necessary.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination administered by a City-designated facility.

Conditions of Continued Employment

Incumbents and candidates must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and insurability in accordance with the City's insurance carrier.
