About the Role
The Sanitation Superintendent will manage assigned processes and personnel to meet or exceed company and departmental goals, overseeing the efficient sanitation and cleaning functions of the manufacturing facility. This position serves as the primary contact for pest control and chemical representatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the facility sanitation program, including maintenance and compliance with the master sanitation schedule, ensuring tasks are executed without compromising safety, food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the facility is audit-ready daily in alignment with the QA Manager and facility leadership.
- Manage the chemical supplier relationship and budget, identifying and addressing deficiencies through Corrective Action Reports and participating in Root Cause Analysis.
- Oversee requisition, inventory, and maintenance of cleaning chemicals, tools, supplies, and equipment.
- Assign tasks to workers, including crew setup, equipment movement, and meeting pre-op deadlines.
- Communicate with Scheduling, Quality Assurance, Dry Storage, and Warehouse to ensure timely release of the plant floor for Pre-Op testing.
- Plan and schedule team members' cleaning schedules, ensuring fair and efficient use of departmental policies and procedures.
- Assign and oversee sanitation cleaning schedules, including planned and unplanned work, while monitoring progress and resolving issues.
- Ensure compliance with annual budget objectives, including department expenses, standard work, and overtime.
- Lead a team of 20-25 hourly associates, directing workloads to achieve KPIs and meet operational goals.
- Serve as the primary contact on the 3rd shift and oversee other plant areas in the absence of leadership.
- Ensure team members complete required company training, including safety, food safety, and quality, and support their development.
- Promote a culture of safety and health, ensuring all operations prioritize employee well-being.
- Drive continuous improvement in food safety, sanitation, and quality through kaizen projects and sustainability efforts.
- Develop and recommend improvements for facilities, equipment, cleaning procedures, pest control, and chemical concerns.
- Support team members in resolving immediate challenges or problems during operations.
- Establish and align on sanitation-specific KPIs, ensuring records and reporting demonstrate performance.
- Maintain workflow by monitoring sanitation processes, implementing cost reductions, and facilitating corrections.
- Compile, analyze, and provide recommendations based on sanitation, pest control, and chemical performance data.
- Organize and lead continuous improvement projects based on data analysis.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in food safety and sanitation within a food environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or above preferred but not required.
- HACCP and 3rd party audit certification.
- Strong critical thinking, reliability, decisiveness, and good judgment.
- Knowledge of food sanitation requirements.
- Well-developed English-language communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate and enforce quality and food safety expectations collaboratively.
- Ability to manage and resolve conflict positively.
- Flexibility to adjust schedule to support business needs.
