About the role

As a Sanford Student Nursing Intern, you will experience the day-to-day life of a Registered Nurse in a variety of roles and settings. This hands-on, 10-week paid internship will expand your clinical skills and knowledge under the guidance of an experienced nurse preceptor. Following the 10-week summer program, interns may have the option to extend their internship into the school year. This is a great opportunity to strengthen your skills and serve your community.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a learning experience designed to develop confidence and competence in clinical skills to facilitate a smooth transition into a licensed role after graduation.
  • Assist students in finding an area of nursing clinical practice that best fits their career goals, talents and interests.
  • Be mentored by a licensed professional in your specialty to strengthen clinical skill sets.
  • Care for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings.
  • Discover enhanced ways of communicating and supporting patients, learning what it is like working as a licensed professional in your field, while following a real schedule.
  • Perform tasks of direct and indirect patient care and support the activities of the department.
  • Utilize appropriate population-specific patient care protocols and policies related to the physical and psychological needs of all ages of patients.
  • Embody the vision and values that are compatible with Sanford Health.
  • Function within the scope and standards of practice as outlined in the state-specific regulations.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an internship course approved by the state board of nursing (this does not apply to internships held in the states of South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin).
  • Expected graduation date of Fall / Winter 2027 or Spring / Summer 2028.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited RN program (associate or bachelor degree) and have participated in an academic clinical experience.
  • Must be enrolled in a board of licensed clinical practice approved internship course (this does not apply to internships held in the state of South Dakota and Wisconsin).
