As a Night Stocker, you'll become part of a highly-functioning team in the Grocery or Drug Store department, working overnight to meet common goals and maintain a well-stocked, organized store. This role offers learning opportunities across multiple products and departments, serving as a foundation for career growth at H-E-B.

Responsibilities

  • Stock shelves, refill displays, and load/unload heavy or bulky products; may unload trucks.
  • Condition shelves and products, ensuring proper rotation dates and label information to meet A+ Standards.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized department, including back rooms and shelves.
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and leader direction with personal discipline.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations for product food safety and sanitation.
  • Work efficiently and collaboratively with a team mindset to meet nightly productivity goals.
  • Accept and apply constructive feedback to improve performance on future tasks.
  • May train or coach other Stockers.
  • Assist customers in locating products and answer product-related questions.
  • Build relationships across departments (e.g., Curbside) and work cross-functionally within the store.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Experience in stocking and customer service is preferred.
  • Experience in physically demanding roles is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and apply SOPs, including emergency procedures and proper stocking techniques.
  • Strong communication, reading, and writing skills.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Customer service orientation with a team-focused mindset.
  • Ability to perform repetitive, physical tasks, including heavy lifting (see Physical Demands for details).
  • Agility and ability to think quickly while managing multiple priorities and shifting focus between tasks.
  • Willingness to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Work in a fast-paced, demanding store environment with close attention to detail. Physical requirements vary by department:

  • Grocery:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk, bend.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to cold, loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs and manage loads in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Drugstore:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 66 lbs and manage loads in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Dairy:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp; exposed to cold temperatures.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk, bend.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 86 lbs and manage loads in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Frozen:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp; exposed to cold temperatures.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 60 lbs and manage loads in excess of 100 lbs.
  • General Merchandise:
    • Constantly: Reach at waist, grasp.
    • Frequently: Stand, walk, bend.
    • Occasionally: Reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, climb ladder, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions.
    • Ability to lift 60 lbs and manage loads in excess of 60 lbs.

Note: "Constantly" = 5.5+ hours per 8-hour day; "Frequently" = 2.5–5.5 hours; "Occasionally" = 0–2.5 hours. Partners must never lift beyond their safe limit—break down heavy items or ask for assistance.

Qualifications

  • Forklift/power jack training provided upon hire.
