Responsibilities
- Builds and maintains relationships within an assigned territory.
- Drives written premium growth and maintains renewal retention goals.
- Delivers a high degree of customer satisfaction.
- Applies underwriting, sales, and distribution management skills to manage an overall book of business.

- Evaluates inland marine and related property risks using underwriting, sales, and distribution management skills.
- Develops comprehensive risk management plans for accounts and territories.
- Interprets complex financial data and evaluates financial stability to guide risk assessments and pricing strategies.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of loss prevention tactics and collaborates with risk engineering professionals to develop loss prevention programs and risk mitigation solutions.
- Develops complex policies that balance comprehensive coverage with accurate pricing through effective utilization of endorsements and specialized coverage options.
- Aligns coverages offered with appropriately developed coverage terms, limits, and pricing based on a strong understanding of all coverage components.
- Ensures adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements by applying intermediate-level underwriting process and compliance skills.
- Coordinates tasks by engaging appropriate internal and external stakeholders to deliver optimal outcomes.
- Maintains a continuous improvement mindset and offers suggestions for process efficiencies.
- Maintains knowledge of insurance laws and regulations to ensure policies meet legal requirements and provides guidance on complex compliance issues.
- Creates detailed and organized documentation that clearly outlines underwriting decisions.
- Applies intermediate-level sales acumen in account service, account management, cross-selling, business development, and marketing strategy and positioning.
- Conducts negotiations, prospecting and qualifying, solution development, and competitive analysis to drive profitable growth.
- Manages agency relationships and submission flow using intermediate-level distribution management skills.
- Builds strong relationships with agency partners to drive profitable submissions and foster long-term partnerships.
- Prepares for and conducts effective agency review meetings that support the goals of Berkley Fire & Marine Underwriters and its agency partners.
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of inland marine insurance underwriting experience.
- Ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Intermediate-level underwriting analysis, coverage, and pricing skills.
- Intermediate-level underwriting process and compliance skills.
- Intermediate-level distribution management skills.
- Intermediate-level sales acumen.
- Intermediate-level skills in collaboration, customer focus, personal growth, innovation, critical thinking, and accountability.
- Proficiency in underwriting analysis, coverage analysis, and pricing analysis.
- Skills in underwriting process management and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in distribution management, sales, account management, business development, and relationship management.
- Strong negotiation, prospecting and qualifying, risk assessment, and financial analysis capabilities.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, customer focus, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Education Requirement: College degree or equivalent job-related experience.
