Driving Requirements

  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Safe driving record
  • Minimum two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger within the U.S., its possessions or territories, or on U.S. military installations worldwide

Pay

Starting annual salary $53,334, paid bi-weekly.

Responsibilities

  • Sort mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route
  • Receive and sign for accountable mail
  • Load mail in vehicle
  • Deliver mail to customers along a prescribed route on a regular schedule by vehicle
  • Collect monies and receipts for accountable mail; pick up mail from customers’ roadside boxes
  • Sell stamps, stamped paper, and money orders
  • Accept C.O.D., registered, certified, insured mail, and parcel post
  • Furnish routine information concerning postal matters and provide requested forms to customers
  • Return mail collected, undeliverable mail, and submit monies and receipts to post office
  • Prepare mail for forwarding and maintain records of change-of-address information
  • Prepare a daily trip report and maintain a list of customers on the route
  • Conduct special surveys when required
  • Maintain an inventory of stamps and stamped paper as needed to provide service to customers on the route
  • Provide for mail security at all times

Requirements

  • Successfully complete the Virtual Entry Assessment MC (474)
  • Complete prescribed training and demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) through testing and/or practical demonstration
  • Physically able to perform duties involving prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and handling heavy containers of mail up to the allowable maximum mailing weight
  • Valid state driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Furnish all necessary vehicle equipment for prompt mail handling unless vehicle is provided by the employer
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident alien status

Additional Provisions

  • Rural Carriers must maintain a neat and professional appearance and demeanor in public interactions
  • Equipment maintenance allowance paid for each day an employee provides their own vehicle

Screenings

  • Multiple background-check requests; respond promptly to avoid disqualification
  • Inspection Service criminal background check covering a 10-year inquiry for any U.S. location where the individual has resided, worked, or attended school
