Position Snapshot:
The Sales Engineer – Metal Powders position is a hybrid technical-commercial role responsible for driving revenue growth across additive manufacturing, thermal spray, and powder metallurgy markets. This role requires a candidate with 3-7+ years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or materials engineering, supported by a strong academic foundation in materials science, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
About the Role
Serves as the primary technical advisor to customers and internal sales teams, guiding material selection, qualification, and production scale-up. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to translate customer requirements into optimized material solutions while supporting the full sales cycle—from early engagement through long-term supply agreements. Strong commercial acumen, communication skills, and negotiation capabilities are essential to expand existing accounts and identify new opportunities across aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, medical, and industrial sectors. Success in this role depends on the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain teams, contribute to product development initiatives, and support industry engagement through trade shows and customer workshops.
Responsibilities
- Guides material selection, qualification, and production scale-up for additive manufacturing, thermal spray, and powder metallurgy applications.
- Supports the full sales cycle from early engagement through long-term supply agreements.
- Translates customer requirements into optimized material solutions.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain teams.
- Contributes to product development initiatives.
- Supports industry engagement through trade shows and customer workshops.
Requirements
- 3-7+ years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or materials engineering.
- A strong academic foundation in materials science, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Deep expertise in metal powder characteristics such as particle size distribution, morphology, chemistry, and flowability.
- A working knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes including Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), Directed Energy Deposition (DED), Cold Spray, HVOF, laser cladding, and press & sinter technologies.
Qualifications
- Strong commercial acumen, communication skills, and negotiation capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with customer engagement and relationship building.
- Ability to travel up to 30-50% of the time.
Benefits
Hybrid position based in Western Pennsylvania, requiring 3 days per week in the office and 2 days remote, with an additional expectation of 30-50% travel to support customer engagement and business development activities.
