Sales Engineer - Mid Market - Southeast

About the role
As a Sales Engineer at Samsara, you’ll be an integral part of a diverse team modernizing essential industries through cutting-edge IoT solutions. Your work will contribute to a cleaner, more efficient supply chain by enhancing road safety, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, and providing a consolidated platform for connecting operations.
Daily customer engagements will focus on how IoT can impact logistics management, workplace safety programs, fleet maintenance strategies, global asset management, and regulatory compliance. A successful Sales Engineer at Samsara will develop expertise in IoT hardware and sensors, hands-on hardware installation, data collection over carrier networks, cloud infrastructure, and third-party system integrations via our open API.
This is a remote position for candidates residing in the Southeast region of the United States, excluding the San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Washington DC metros. The role requires up to 50% travel, and proximity to an international airport is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally.
- Become an expert on Samsara products, bridging cutting-edge tech (IoT, AI, computer vision) with digital transformation for physical operations.
- Articulate to prospects how businesses in their industry use Samsara to solve common challenges.
- Deliver work products that drive deals, including discoveries, demonstrations, value assessments, and proof-of-concept implementations.
- Guide installers through scenarios, explaining best practices for installing Samsara products and building deployment plans.
- Write scripts against our open API to solve real-world problems for essential service providers and document them for fellow Sales Engineers.
- Open doors for deeper account entrenchment (integration, upsell, cross-sell) by acting as a consultant to customers.
- Serve as a liaison between Samsara’s product and sales teams, translating technical feedback and enrolling customers in beta programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Science degree from a 4-year accredited university.
- 2+ years of experience working with customers in pre-sales, customer success, or customer/product support.
- Ability to influence stakeholders through technical sales acumen and understanding of business processes and change management.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Previous experience managing hardware and/or software product evaluations.
- Basic understanding of electronics and electrical systems.
- Experience with technical consulting, cloud software, cloud-connected hardware, computer networking, business systems integration, automation, and control systems.
- Must be located within and authorized to work in the United States.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s of Science or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Work experience in task automation scripting and transferring data between systems using Bash, Python, JavaScript, or equivalent languages.
- Experience building solutions leveraging open APIs.
- Understanding of vehicle diagnostic systems, including Controller Area Networks (CAN bus) and Power Take Off (PTO) applications.
- Hobbyist interest in working with electronic systems (e.g., car audio installation, classic car restoration, home automation, Raspberry Pi, Arduino).
- Consistent track record of success selling complex technical solutions through strategic sales cycles.

Pay
Annual on-target earnings (OTE) for this position range from $95,795 to $144,900 USD. OTE may vary based on factors such as city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
