Sales Engineer- Flat Sales

About the role

The Sales and Service Engineer is responsible for the development of SMS’s service business, including compiling the scope of work, estimating associated costs, and developing project schedules. Additional responsibilities include on-site services to tune combustion systems and furnace mechanical components.

Responsibilities

• Works as a point of contact with the customer in the proposal/quoting/services sales phase of the project to identify customer needs.
• Develops the service scope of work.
• Compiles quotes from man-hour estimates and tool costs and transfers this into a final quotation format as presented to the customer.
• Develops familiarity with furnace equipment to respond to customer maintenance needs.
• Performs service on equipment such as reheat furnaces, annealing furnaces, burners, fans, heat exchangers, and convective coolers.
• Acts as the first line of contact within the customer facility to identify retrofit and new equipment opportunities.
• Assists in the commissioning of new equipment.
• Extensive travel is required.

Requirements

• Hands-on aptitude with combustion equipment and controls.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a group.
• Engineering Technician certification or Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
• Understanding of NFPA safety code is required.
• Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software is a plus.
• Business travel to customers’ sites and vendor workshops will be required.

• Work on feet for long periods.
• Work around hot equipment.
• Troubleshoot problems.

Steel Plant hot and cold mills.
