Sales Engineer - Data Center Mechanical Systems

About the role
The Sales Engineer for the HVAC Equipment Sales division will sell HVAC units and mechanical equipment, driving the business unit forward by working with customers to find optimal HVAC solutions for commercial construction projects in a timely, profitable, and responsive manner. This position is commission-based and requires skills and drive to increase and maintain sales success in the industrial and commercial business sectors.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow assigned territory or group of accounts consisting of building owners, end-users, engineers, and contractors; may also focus on prospecting directly to new end-users.
- Ensure assigned contractors are providing appropriate opportunities to LONG Building Environments/HVAC Equipment.
- Achieve booking and gross margin goals, with a general annual booking volume guideline of $3-5M.
- Develop and implement plans to take advantage of all sales opportunities for assigned customers or territory.
- Perform needs assessments and develop sales proposals, estimates, specifications, and presentations.
- Explain and demonstrate the technical aspects of products and services to ensure customers have a satisfactory understanding of HVAC equipment and systems.
- Work with operations, finance, legal, and other resources as needed to obtain the sale.
- Follow through on sold projects to ensure satisfactory completion, including a smooth sales-to-operations turnover and monitoring progress.
- Assist in resolving installation, collections, and other customer satisfaction issues as needed.
- Assist customers and potential customers with problems involving the use of company products and services and recommend suitable resolutions.
- Prepare accurate and thorough sales activity reports, forecast reports, and expense tracking.
- Participate in local civic and professional organizations, and sales department meetings, workshops, and seminars.
- Pursue in-depth product and service knowledge and acquire deeper selling, technical, and financial skills.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and regulations in the building environments industry.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify new opportunities and position offerings effectively.
- Share knowledge and expertise through training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions to enhance team capabilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3+ years of sales-related work experience.
- Moderate related technical and financial expertise.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
- Knowledge of HVAC, control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, engineering, installation, and construction procedures.
- Ability to interpret mechanical plans and specifications.
- Practical/technical knowledge required to apply and sell all products and pursue additional job-related knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to influence the decision-making process at key levels.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization professionally.
- Aptitude to learn and competently use company estimating tools.
- Understanding of value engineering, related contractual concepts, and financial acumen.
- Excellent customer service and computer skills.
- Elevated level of accountability and willingness to take responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Credentials such as LEED GA/AP, CEM, FE, or PE.
- ASHRAE association membership.

Physical Requirements
- Sitting for extended periods, lifting, bending, and kneeling.
- Lifting up to 25 lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor.
- Climbing ladders and functioning at heights.
Environment: Inside and outside work environments, including general construction worksite hazards, high precarious places, and possible driving in inclement weather conditions.
Pay
First 6 months: $55,670 - $94,201
After 6 months: 100% commission with draw
