As a LONG Sales Engineer for the Building Automation/Temperature Controls business unit, you will sell temperature control projects and drive the business forward by working with customers to find optimal building controls solutions for design build, plan, and specification jobs in a timely, profitable, and responsive manner.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow assigned territory or group of accounts consisting of building owners, end-users, engineers, and contractors; may also focus on prospecting directly to new end-users.
- Ensure assigned contractors provide appropriate opportunities to LONG Building Automation/Temperature Controls.
- Achieve booking and gross margin goals (general annual booking volume guideline: $2-4M).
- Develop and implement plans to capitalize on sales opportunities for assigned customers or territory.
- Perform needs assessments and develop sales proposals, estimates, specifications, and presentations.
- Explain and demonstrate the technical aspects of products and services to ensure customer understanding.
- Collaborate with operations, finance, legal, and other resources to secure sales.
- Participate in work-in-progress meetings and prepare change orders as needed.
- Follow through on sold work to ensure satisfactory completion and smooth sales-to-operations turnover.
- Assist in resolving customer satisfaction issues and collections.
- Prepare accurate sales activity reports, forecast reports, and expense tracking.
- Engage in civic and professional organizations, sales department meetings, workshops, and seminars.
- Pursue in-depth product and service knowledge, and develop selling, technical, and financial skills.
- Stay updated on building automation industry trends, technologies, and regulations.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify new opportunities.
- Share expertise through training programs, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Requirements
- 3+ years of sales-related work experience.
- Moderate technical and financial expertise.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
- Knowledge of HVAC, control systems, building automation, electrical systems, energy management, engineering, installation, and construction procedures.
- Ability to interpret mechanical plans and specifications.
- Practical/technical knowledge to apply and sell all products.
- Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making at key levels.
- Professional communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Aptitude to learn and competently use company estimating tools.
- Understanding of value engineering, contractual concepts, and financial acumen.
- Excellent customer service and computer skills.
- Elevated level of accountability and willingness to take responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, or a similar field.
- Credentials such as LEED GA/AP, CEM, FE, or PE.
- ASHRAE association membership.
- Knowledge of KMC, Distech, Tridium/Honeywell, and equivalent systems.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting up to 25 lbs. from floor to countertop and vice versa.
- Standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting, bending, and kneeling.
- Inside and outside work environments; potential exposure to inclement weather and construction site risks.

Pay
$80,000 - $105,000 base salary, plus commission.
