About the role
Olympus Controls is a fast-paced Automation Company seeking a motivated Sales Engineer to join our growing team. This is a technical sales engineer position responsible for managing a geographic territory, providing solutions to customers, and growing sales through established and new relationships.
Responsibilities
- Manage customer relationships through onsite and in-office application consulting combined with proactive and reactive selling to new and existing customers
- Perform all steps of the sales cycle: investigate new clients, assess customer needs, recommend solutions, close sales, and provide post-sale support
- Interface with key suppliers and act as an advocate for the customer in the applications, quoting, post-sales support, and returns/repair processes when necessary
- Use the company’s CRM to enter and update customer and supplier information and track opportunities
- Manage pre-sale and post-sale technical support needs of the customer
- Develop skills in cold calling, lead follow-up, onsite product marketing, training, and supplier involvement when necessary
- Conduct 6–9 customer visits per week to discover new opportunities and further develop existing ones
- Assist with trade shows, customer training, supplier or Olympus-sponsored seminars, and supplier management activities (e.g., attending supplier events and performing joint sales calls)
- Establish and maintain relationships, provide referrals to integrator partners, and respond to customer complaints and quality issues
- Respond to customer and coworker action items within 24 hours and provide updates every 24 hours on ongoing tasks
- Cover duties for inside sales, applications engineers, and other sales associates during absences (vacation, sick days, emergencies, etc.)
- Track demo equipment in your possession or loaned to customers via Olympus’ tracking system
- Create quotes in accordance with Olympus standards
- Travel to customer sites within your territory to evaluate application details and collaborate with suppliers to provide solutions
- Travel out of region for training—up to 10 weeks in the first year depending on existing knowledge and up to 1 week per year thereafter
- Develop and execute a territory plan throughout the fiscal year
- Complete Professional Sales System (PSS) training and consistently use PSS sales tools
- Work 50-hour weeks as the standard for a successful sales engineer
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and/or Mechatronics Engineering degree or equivalent experience in a technical field
- Limited knowledge of Olympus products or functionally equivalent competitor products
Pay
The typical estimated total compensation for this position is $78,000.00 – $126,000.00 per year depending on experience, including potential bonus opportunities. Bonus amounts can be tied to company, location, and/or individual performance, but no specific amount is guaranteed.
