Watkins, a NEBCO Company, provides high-quality concrete and masonry building materials to residential and commercial markets across Nebraska and the surrounding region. With decades of experience, Watkins manufactures and distributes standard and architectural concrete block, segmental retaining wall systems, concrete pavers, brick, stone, exterior finishes, fabricated rebar, sealers, tools, and other construction essentials through automated facilities, distribution locations, and showrooms.

About the role

Watkins is seeking a high-performing, results-oriented Sales Director to oversee sales teams across all Watkins locations (Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island, and Kearney). This role is responsible for developing commercial sales markets, selling Watkins-manufactured and represented products to profit standards, and managing sales teams to prospect, contact, and influence new accounts while supporting and growing established accounts. The position requires adherence to the Company Safety Program and Policies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop sales goals for growing revenue and improving profit margins; create and implement sales plans and strategies to achieve these goals.
  • Establish performance goals for sales teams and consistently evaluate achievement of performance standards.
  • Provide effective leadership that facilitates, encourages, and assures achievement of goals.
  • Foster and advance positive professional relationships with coworkers, customers, vendors, and NEBCO companies.
  • Service, maintain, and develop existing commercial clients: contractors, developers, owners, and specifiers.
  • Prospect and develop new accounts: contractors, developers, owners, and specifiers.
  • Coordinate operations of the commercial sales team with all other departments/divisions within the Company.
  • Collaborate with NEBCO Marketing Manager and Watkins sales teams to develop marketing strategies, collateral, and advertising campaigns that support sales goals.
  • Monitor and analyze sales revenue, sales trends, and inventory trends; adjust sales plans as required.
  • Develop, monitor, maintain, and manage appropriate price lists and special terms for customers.
  • Implement operating methods and procedures to improve sales efficiency and meet customer needs.
  • Responsible for development and/or selection of new products for the commercial market.
  • Represent the Company at community and business meetings to promote the Company.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field; and five years of related sales experience, with at least 3 years in managing sales teams in construction or a related industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a driver’s license and be insurable under the company driver policy.
  • Specific experience creating strategic solutions with Product and Marketing teams.
  • Ability to manage details and comprehend the full scope of Sales and Marketing goals.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain business relationships and apply negotiation skills.
  • Ability to develop a strong customer base and maintain ongoing business relationships; must present ideas with knowledge and authority.
  • Experience in relationship management and results delivery, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and write technical documents, routine reports, and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Thorough verbal and written communication skills to document all aspects of projects.
  • Quantitative skills to analyze product and production based on sales goals and customer orders, with the ability to analyze market sales data and make recommendations.
  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings based on business needs or customer requests.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
