Our head office is located in Sydney, Australia, and this role will be fully remote, supporting biotech companies across the US East Coast market. Reporting to the Director, Business Development, you will play a critical role in identifying, engaging, and qualifying prospective biotech clients. You will generate high-quality sales opportunities through strategic outbound prospecting and help expand Southern Star Research's presence within the US biotechnology sector.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain targeted prospect lists, including key decision-makers, influencers, founders, and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Conduct high-volume outbound outreach via phone, email, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
  • Qualify inbound and outbound leads based on clinical development stage, outsourcing needs, therapeutic focus, geography, and strategic fit.
  • Generate qualified meetings and opportunities for the Director, Business Development.
  • Engage professionally with biotech executives, clinical development leaders, and operational stakeholders.
  • Tailor outreach messaging to align with each prospect's development stage, pipeline, and business objectives.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, prospect intelligence, and sales activity tracking.
  • Support targeted business development campaigns, conference follow-up activities, and account-based outreach initiatives.
  • Monitor biotech market activity, funding announcements, pipeline developments, and outsourcing opportunities to identify new business prospects.
  • Share market insights and intelligence to support broader business development strategy.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years' experience as a Sales Development Representative, Inside Sales Representative, Business Development Associate, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated success generating meetings and opportunities within biotechnology, clinical research, CRO services, life sciences, or a related industry.
  • Proven experience in cold calling, outbound email campaigns, LinkedIn prospecting, and high-volume lead generation.
  • Experience engaging senior stakeholders, including founders, executives, clinical development leaders, and C-suite decision-makers.
  • Strong understanding of biotechnology, clinical development, and clinical trial terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and CRM discipline.
  • The ability to work autonomously in a remote environment while managing priorities across time zones.
  • A track record of meeting or exceeding activity and performance targets.

Desired Experience

  • Highly regarded experience working for a CRO, biotech company, clinical trial service provider, or life sciences vendor.
  • Exposure to Australian clinical trials or global clinical development programs.
  • Familiarity with US biotech hubs and emerging biotech companies.
  • Experience using CRM and sales engagement platforms.
  • Knowledge of biotech funding cycles, outsourcing trends, and clinical trial delivery.

Why Southern Star?

  • Join a passionate team committed to our shared purpose: creating brighter futures, one study at a time.
  • Be part of an award-winning global CRO experiencing strong growth and expansion.
  • Work with industry-leading experts across clinical research and drug development.
  • Fully remote role with flexibility and autonomy.
  • Exciting growth phase creating ongoing career development opportunities.
  • Competitive remuneration package and commission scheme.
  • Supportive, collaborative, and high-performing culture.
