About the role
Our Sales Consultants are critical to the success of our organization by building customer relationships, providing product knowledge, and performing merchandising activities. This Sales Consultant will service a territory in the Salisbury, NC market and must live in and be familiar with the surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
- Achieve sales objectives through territory management, selling current and new products, promotions, in-store tastings, and servicing accounts.
- Perform merchandising activities such as shelf placement, maintaining cold boxes, building displays, and stocking inventories.
- Develop strategies and pre-plans to achieve sales and merchandising objectives by understanding company pricing and product programming information monthly; maintain accurate historical account purchase information.
- Call on accounts and cover daily routes by creating an established and efficient routing pattern.
- Analyze the entire account base by visiting each account, identifying opportunities, completing necessary surveys, and ensuring national account compliance where applicable.
- Prepare and deliver professional sales presentations to customers, balancing company priorities and customer needs, including selling display ideas, new products, cold box, shelf, and promotions.
- Work with management on inventory levels by monitoring current inventory, out-of-stock situations, and alerting management to possible demand fluctuations.
- Attain performance goals by achieving distribution, volume, and activity goals of supplier brands as set by management.
- Ensure maximum brand visibility within accounts by maintaining account standards and using effective, current point-of-sale materials.
- Maintain product levels in accounts by taking inventory and restocking shelves.
- Obtain payments for the company by collecting and delivering checks or other remittance from accounts where legally permissible.
- Educate account staff on priority brands by administering training seminars.
- Support account openings by developing opening orders for new accounts in collaboration with the District Manager.
- Manage customer account receivables by processing credits and returns and communicating with accounts on aged receivables.
- Service accounts by delivering products in extenuating circumstances, handling customer issues and complaints, and referring issues to management as appropriate.
- Maintain professional relationships with suppliers by participating in sales calls and sales blitzes.
- Stay informed of company and supplier activities by attending and actively participating in sales meetings.
- Complete all necessary training programs by attending, participating, and passing required tests as defined by management.
- Maintain professional and industry knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, and establishing personal networks.
- Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent training and work experience preferred.
- Understanding of wine and spirits is highly preferred.
- Strong accounting, computer, customer service, and interpersonal expertise preferred.
- Results-oriented professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills; uses diplomacy and discretion.
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to multi-task, work independently or within a team, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
- Proficient PC skills using MS Office and other programs, including presentation software.
- Familiarity with the assigned territory is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle; must use a personal vehicle for the position.
- Must pass a criminal background check and MVR (Motor Vehicle Record).
