About the role

Johnson Brothers is a national family-owned wine, spirits, and beer distributor, providing exceptional service to customers since 1953. This Sales Consultant position services a territory in the Charlotte, NC market. The role is critical to building customer relationships, providing product knowledge, and executing merchandising activities.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve sales objectives through territory management, selling current and new products, promotions, and in-store tastings.
  • Perform merchandising activities such as shelf placement, maintaining cold boxes, building displays, and stocking inventories.
  • Develop strategies and preplans to achieve sales and merchandising objectives by understanding company pricing and product programming information monthly.
  • Maintain accurate historical account purchase information and create efficient routing patterns for daily account visits.
  • Analyze the entire account base to identify opportunities, complete necessary surveys, and ensure national account compliance.
  • Prepare and deliver professional sales presentations balancing company priorities and customer needs, including selling display ideas, new products, and promotions.
  • Work with management on inventory levels by monitoring current inventory, out-of-stock situations, and demand fluctuations.
  • Attain performance goals by achieving distribution, volume, and activity goals set by management for supplier brands.
  • Ensure maximum brand visibility by maintaining account standards and using effective point-of-sale materials.
  • Maintain product levels in accounts by taking inventory and restocking shelves.
  • Obtain payments for the company by collecting and delivering checks or other remittances from accounts where legally permissible.
  • Educate account staff on priority brands through training seminars.
  • Support account openings by developing opening orders for new accounts in collaboration with the District Manager.
  • Manage customer account receivables by processing credits and returns and communicating on aged receivables.
  • Service accounts by delivering products in extenuating circumstances, handling customer issues and complaints, and escalating to management as needed.
  • Maintain professional relationships with suppliers through effective sales calls and participation in sales blitzes.
  • Stay informed of company and supplier activities by attending and actively participating in sales meetings.
  • Complete all necessary training programs, including attending, participating, and passing required tests.
  • Maintain professional and industry knowledge through educational workshops, publications, and networking.
  • Protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training and work experience preferred.
  • Understanding of wine and spirits is highly preferred.
  • Strong accounting, computer, customer service, and interpersonal skills preferred.
  • Results-oriented professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills; uses diplomacy and discretion.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to multi-task, work independently or within a team, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient PC skills using MS Office and other various programs, including presentation software.
  • Familiarity with the assigned territory is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle; must pass a criminal background and MVR check.
  • Position requires the use of a personal vehicle.
