About the role
Unum is looking for rising seniors ready to explore a career in sales and client management to join our 10-week paid internship program. This internship could be the first step on a career path offering tremendous growth potential. You will be immersed in our company’s culture, working on rewarding project work that culminates in an end-of-summer presentation to key business leaders. The program provides a realistic look at what it means to be a Unum Producer, with opportunities to work independently and collaboratively within teams.
Our 10-week internship program includes focus areas such as prospecting and quoting, selling, enrollment, onboarding, and relationship management.
Responsibilities
- Work for Unum, the leader in the disability-based employee benefits marketplace, in a professional office setting
- Weekly focus areas covering the lifecycle of a Unum case, allowing you to experience and analyze problems from start to finish
- Assigned mentors and sponsors to guide and support you throughout your internship and beyond
- Dedicated support for resume writing and interview preparation
- Skill development workshops to sharpen professional skills
- Targeted and guided job shadows with mentors and sales/client management colleagues
- Capstone presentation: analyzing an assigned business case
- Learn about Field and Home Office departmental and corporate functions
- Attend weekly information sessions and networking opportunities with your intern cohort
- Earn college credits for your internship (faculty/hiring manager pre-approval required)
Requirements
- Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college degree program
- Preference given to rising seniors and first-year graduate students
- Competitive GPA
- Demonstrates leadership skills and involvement in extracurricular activities
- Genuine interest in sales and client management, as well as a desire to learn about the insurance industry
- Skilled at analytical and critical thinking
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed on project work
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Available to work approximately 40 hours per week during regular business hours
Pay
The base salary range for this position is competitive. Actual pay will be based on skills, geographical location, and experience. Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards, including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short- and long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute or not.
