Sales Associate / Sales Tech Electronics Progressive (Part Time) w/ Benefits

About the Role

Join the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) in Oak Harbor, WA, as a Sales Associate/Sales Technician (Computers & Electronics). This role supports the military community by providing essential retail services and technical guidance to service members and their families. You’ll work in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same, contributing to both personal and professional growth while making a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with basic computer problems/questions, including system and equipment compatibility.
• Explain and recommend computer and audio/video merchandise, as well as in-home installation services, to help customers make informed buying decisions.
• Sell electronic goods requiring technical knowledge, such as home entertainment systems, surround sound systems, Plasma LCD HDTVs, personal computers (PCs), DVD players, cameras, camcorders, and MP3 players.
• Practice loss prevention procedures and perform related retail sales duties.
• Operate a Point-of-Sales system, processing cash, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, and debit cards, including handling cash and providing accurate change.

Requirements

This is a progressive position. If hired as a Sales Associate, you may advance to the Sales Technician level without further competition once you meet the minimum qualifications for the Sales Technician role.

Sales Associate

• No experience required.
• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Sales Technician (Computers & Electronics)

• Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to perform job duties.
• Must pass an employment criminal background check.
• 18 months of experience in retail sales with technical knowledge of computers and electronics.

General Experience: One year of responsible experience in clerical, office, or retail sales work demonstrating the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position.

Specialized Experience: 18 months of progressively responsible experience in retail sales, including duties specific to the position and technical knowledge of computers, cameras, video/audio equipment, stereo equipment, TVs, DVDs, etc., particularly as it relates to quality, similarities, and differences.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Study completed in a college, university, junior college, technical school, or comparable institution above the high school level may substitute for experience (one-half academic year of study = 6 months of experience), provided the subjects relate to computers, home electronics sales/repair, photography, etc. Specialized experience may substitute for required general experience at any level.

Schedule

Part-time (20 - 34.5 hours per week).
