The Sales Associate contributes to the mission of Goodwill by assisting in the day-to-day operations of the retail store to generate funds for employment services, digital skills training, guide programs, and adult education.
Organizational Design
Under the leadership of the Store Manager, the Sales Associate is part of the Donated Goods Retail Operations team. They are responsible for the daily operations of the retail store, including obtaining payment for merchandise, processing, stocking, and pulling, and providing excellent customer service.
Essential Functions
- Ability to use a computer-based register system
- Must be able to perform basic financial calculations for cash handling and register balancing
- Count till before and after each scheduled shift and reconcile till at the end of shift to ensure accurate drawer amounts
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers and providing assistance with store operations and merchandise
- Able to meet production standards for stemming, hanging, pricing, sorting, stocking, and pulling
- Sort donations according to company guidelines
- Ensure all products are constantly rotated
- Ensure proper handling and processing of incoming donations in and out of the store in accordance with Goodwill policies and procedures, including the use of a pallet jack
- Train and develop team members within the framework of Goodwill policies, procedures, and job descriptions
- Must have punctual and dependable attendance
- Demonstrate professionalism and present a friendly, cooperative attitude
- Load and unload store merchandise as needed
- Aid in store security
- Notify Store Management team of low and overstocked items
- Perform necessary janitorial work as needed
- Adhere to all Goodwill policies and procedures regarding sales, exchanges, cash handling, and safety
- Ensure customer and donor experience is positive
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Pass skills and knowledge assessment testing
- Pass drug test and criminal background check
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Twist, bend, squat, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, and pull
- Lift up to 40 pounds and team lift or use equipment to aid in lifting and moving items over 40 pounds
- Indoor working environment with occasional exposure to outside temperatures and occupational allergens such as dust, animal hair and dander, perfumes, and mold
- Moderate noise level in the work environment
