The Sales Associate contributes to the mission of Goodwill by assisting in the day-to-day operations of the retail store to generate funds for employment services, digital skills training, guide programs, and adult education.

Organizational Design

Under the leadership of the Store Manager, the Sales Associate is part of the Donated Goods Retail Operations team. They are responsible for the daily operations of the retail store, including obtaining payment for merchandise, managing inventory, providing customer service, and training team members.

Essential Functions

• Ability to use a computer-based register system
• Must be able to perform basic financial calculations for cash handling and register balancing
• Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers and providing assistance with store operations and merchandise
• Able to meet production standards for stemming, hanging, pricing, sorting, stocking, and pulling
• Ensure all products are constantly rotated and sort donations according to company guidelines
• Must be able to perform basic calculations to track donations, count production, and price donated goods within Goodwill guidelines
• Ensure proper handling and processing of incoming donations in and out of the store in accordance with Goodwill policies and procedures, including using a pallet jack
• Assist in training and developing store team members, clients, and volunteers
• Must have punctual and dependable attendance
• Demonstrate professionalism and present a friendly, cooperative attitude at all times
• Perform necessary janitorial work as needed
• Adhere to all Goodwill policies and procedures regarding sales, exchanges, cash handling, and safety
• Ensure customer and donor experience is positive
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
• Pass skills and knowledge assessment testing
• Pass drug test and criminal background check

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• Twist, bend, squat, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, and pull
• Lift up to 40 pounds and team lift heavier items
• Occasional exposure to outside temperatures and occupational allergens
• Moderate noise level in the work environment
