About the Role

The Department of Business Services at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks a Sales Associate for the UVA Bookstore. Responsibilities

• Greet and offer assistance to customers.
• Recognize levels of stock on sales floor and replenish accordingly.
• Continually fix and neaten sales floor area and replace tags as directed.
• Respond to customer inquiries on the sales floor and over the telephone.
• Receive designated purchase orders and daily transfers.
• Keep stockroom clean, safe, and well organized.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of related work experience.
• Strong communication and active listening skills to provide exceptional customer service.
• Knowledge of cash handling and math skills.
• Demonstrated excellence in decision making.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Availability to work weekend and evening shifts.
• Ability to stand for an 8‑hour shift and frequently bend, lift, walk; capable of lifting/pushing/pulling up to 45 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2‑3 years of related work experience.

Charlottesville, VA.

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $15.00–$18.00 per hour, commensurate with education and experience. This is a non‑exempt, benefited position.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
