Summary

The purpose of this position is to support all of the retail operations and perform duties in all areas of the Midshipmen Store, Gift Shop, Barbershop, Uniform Store, Online Store, or any other retail operation within NABSD.

Duties

  • Customer Service and Retail Duties:
    • Achieve daily profitable sales goal by providing exemplary customer service to include greeting, professional appearance, positive attitude, approaching the customer, suggestive selling and adding on.
    • Must project the best image of USNA and comply with the Public Affairs Office.
    • Receive special order requests from authorized patrons and assist customers as needed.
    • Price special order merchandise and notify customers when special order merchandise is received.
    • Assist customers in locating merchandise throughout the retail stores.
    • Assist in outfitting each new class of midshipmen in the summer and throughout the year as required by directives from higher authority.
    • Issue, pack boxes, work issue stations fitting clothing, check-out and process midshipmen through sales store terminals as required.
    • Complete retail reports and submit to management.
  • Point of Sales (POS) and Specialized Systems:
    • Operate the point-of-sale terminal verifying that all merchandise is properly scanned, verifies retail price, verifies product information, processes proper type of sale/return in terminal, properly secures credit card information and delivers receipt to customer.
    • Secure register funds daily, verifying all monies for the day and deliver cash to assigned terminal.
    • At end of workday, count/verify all cash, checks, bank charges, midshipmen charges and deposit same in drop safe per instructions, reconcile accounts.
  • Inventory:
    • Stock and maintain the sales floor according to daily sales plan.
    • Stay current with merchandise assortment.
    • Assist management with pricing when needed.
    • When warehouse shipments are received, check in merchandise, stock shelves, and assist in maintaining visual displays.
    • Perform duties of repacking cartons, labeling cartons with proper counts, working with SKUs, and descriptions of merchandise for transfer to the warehouse and other retail operations.
    • Transport packages to/from the warehouse using the department van.
    • Conduct spot inventories as assigned during the year.
    • Support management during inventory and perform other tasks related to the retail operation within NABSD.
  • General Duties:
    • Maintain housekeeping standards such as dusting, vacuuming, and taking out trash.
    • Provide on the job training to new sales store clerks as needed.
    • May be asked to transfer to another retail location as needed.
    • Support business hours during the week and may include weekend shifts and holidays.
    • Support the safety and health program; promote employee involvement to identify and eliminate safety/health hazards to ensure an accident-free environment.
    • Support EEO policies and communicate support to all coworkers.
    • Maintain all USNA, DOD, DON, and NABSD required training.

Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance – requires 18 years of age.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Verification of employment eligibility in the United States is required.
  • Probationary period: Flexible employees are employed based on the needs of the business.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate in English.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit.
  • Must maintain the privacy of official work information and data, and demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct.

Qualifications

In order to meet the basic requirement of the Sales Associate position, NF-2091-02, you must meet one of the following:

  • Have at least one year of general work experience; OR
  • 2 years of education beyond high school.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) for this position:

  • Front-facing customer service experience.
  • Experience working in a retail setting is preferred.
  • Experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience working a cash register or a point-of-sales (POS) system.
  • POS experience in a retail setting preferred.
  • Experience performing inventory duties, such as restocking sales floor, conducting physical counts, assisting with inventory control procedures, etc.
