We are looking for a Sales and Use Tax Accountant to support a growing real estate investment organization in Augusta, Georgia. This contract opportunity is ideal for a tax specialist who can step in quickly, evaluate multi-state transaction activity, and apply sound judgment across varying state and local tax rules. The role focuses on sales and use tax analysis, compliance, and documentation, with strong visibility across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions. You will play a key part in maintaining accurate tax treatment while helping the team stay organized and responsive in a fast-moving environment. Responsibilities: • Analyze transaction records to determine proper sales and use tax treatment across multiple states and local jurisdictions. • Review taxability issues by interpreting state and local regulations, entity structures, and supporting documentation requirements. • Prepare, maintain, and validate tax records to ensure compliance with jurisdictional filing and audit support standards. • Conduct sales and use tax research and provide practical guidance on tax treatment for business activities and transactions. • Work within online tax authority portals to review activity, support compliance processes, and maintain accurate reporting. • Record and review journal entries and general ledger activity related to indirect tax matters, ensuring alignment with financial records. • Assist with ongoing tax compliance needs during a period of organizational change, taking ownership of assigned responsibilities with limited oversight. • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve tax questions, improve documentation quality, and support timely reporting across legal entities. • Hands-on experience with multi-state sales and use tax review, compliance, and taxability analysis. • Strong understanding of state and local tax jurisdictions, legislative requirements, and documentation standards. • Ability to research indirect tax issues and apply findings accurately to transactional activity. • Experience working with general ledger systems, journal entries, and account reconciliation in a corporate environment. • Familiarity with corporate tax processes and supporting financial records tied to compliance activities. • Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, and manage responsibilities in a changing business setting. • Clear communication skills and strong attention to detail when handling tax data, documentation, and reporting.
