About the role

TrueNorth is seeking a Sales and Business Development Intern to join our insurance brokerage team. This 11-week paid internship, running May–August 2027, is designed as a launchpad for your career, offering real work that impacts the business, opportunities to build AI and data skills, and hands-on sales experience through cold calling. You’ll collaborate with sales and service teams to understand client needs and contribute to tailored insurance solutions while embodying TrueNorth’s core values of Exceptionalism, Collaboration, and Resourcefulness. The position is fully on-site in our Cedar Rapids, IA office, with housing provided for those who need it. We’re hiring a cohort of multiple candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate through Transportation, Risk Management, and Employee Benefits to learn the nuances of our practices.
  • Collaborate with sales and service teams to interact with clients, understand their needs, and contribute to tailored insurance solutions.
  • Meet project deadlines as set between you and your Leader.
  • Organize time in advance to ensure all work and projects are completed on time with appropriate content and organization.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and company information.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and your internship class.
  • Gain hands-on experience in managing policies, endorsements, renewals, and assisting in claims processing.
  • Make outbound calls from supplied call lists.
  • Aid in the preparation of divisional meetings and trainings.
  • Actively engage in workshops and training sessions to enhance your skills and industry knowledge.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate client records, policy documentation, and other critical data.
  • Contribute to market analysis and research projects, providing valuable insights for informed decision-making.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate project updates, findings, and recommendations to internal stakeholders using data from our systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be of Freshman or Sophomore status, currently pursuing education in business, marketing, finance, risk management, or an insurance-related field (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Genuine interest in the insurance industry.
  • Comfortable with technology, including Teams and Outlook.
