About the Role

ACPWB's Public Affairs practice serves organizations that are trying to do the right thing on corporate governance best practices — and some that are trying to appear to do the right thing on corporate governance best practices. The Salary Advocacy Program Manager will work with both categories. This requires a particular combination of intellectual integrity and interpersonal diplomacy. We can train the latter. We cannot train the former. The Salary Advocacy Program Manager position within ACPWB's Public Affairs group offers the opportunity to build genuine expertise in corporate governance best practices within a firm that is recognized as a leading voice in the field. You will manage multiple concurrent workstreams, develop client‑ready deliverables, and contribute to the internal knowledge base that makes ACPWB's research products distinctive. We have snacks.

  • Manage preparation and submission of ACPWB's annual survey participation data to Willis Towers Watson SIRS.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of Willis Towers Watson SIRS and comparable compensation survey instruments.
  • Represent ACPWB at industry conferences and events related to corporate governance best practices and executive compensation.
  • Track and analyze proxy statements, regulatory filings, and public disclosures related to corporate governance best practices.
  • Facilitate post‑engagement debriefs with clients to assess satisfaction and identify follow‑on opportunities.
  • Coordinate with clients' HR, legal, and finance teams to gather and validate data.
  • Manage junior team members on project workstreams, providing direction, feedback, and development coaching.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in or advising clients in the financial services sector on compensation and workforce matters.
  • 3+ years of experience in compensation consulting, HR advisory, or a related analytical field.

Preferred

  • Experience working with family‑owned businesses on compensation program formalization.
  • Experience with board portal software (Diligent, BoardVantage, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with FASB ASC 718 equity compensation accounting.
  • Familiarity with international compensation benchmarking and cross‑border equity structures.

Why ACPWB

ACPWB occupies a distinctive position: large enough to be credible, small enough to be agile, old enough to have a track record, young enough to still be building it. The people who thrive here find that combination energizing rather than disorienting. ACPWB was founded in Milwaukee in 2006 with a simple mandate: help working Americans understand and advocate for the compensation they deserve. Eighteen years later, that mandate has grown into a full‑service research and advisory practice serving clients from early‑stage employers to Fortune 50 enterprises — and we are still based in Milwaukee, because Milwaukee is genuinely underrated.

Interview Process

For senior roles, the process typically includes a portfolio or work‑sample discussion. Candidates are asked to walk through a piece of work they are proud of and explain the decisions behind it, anonymizing client details as appropriate. The focus is on the thinking, not the client names.

What Success Looks Like

  • Informally onboard a newer team member and help them access institutional knowledge.
  • Establish a regular cadence with your manager for feedback, development planning, and career discussion.
  • Produce at least one deliverable that appears in a client's board materials or proxy statement.
  • Deliver an internal presentation sharing key insights from your first major client engagement.
