About the role
Alltown Bus Company is seeking a Driver Trainer to provide classroom and behind-the-wheel training for school bus attendants/operators. The role also includes evaluating drivers' knowledge and skills, maintaining compliance documentation, and transporting students.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and document classroom training for drivers, aides, and monitors.
- Conduct and document behind-the-wheel training for drivers.
- Perform semi-annual behind-the-wheel driver evaluations.
- Evaluate driver candidates and current drivers for compliance with state certification and company standards.
- Aid in driver recruitment and onboarding activities.
- Facilitate safety meetings and training sessions.
- Support customer and company safety awareness programs.
- Review driver motor vehicle records and report concerns to management.
- Maintain license, permit, and certification expiration dates and notify employees as needed.
- Review Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs) and complete administrative safety tasks.
- Report vehicle accidents, injuries, and incidents to management.
- Complete required logs, reports, and training documentation.
- Promote a positive image of the company and maintain professional relationships with employees, customers, and school district personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Commercial driving experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years of school bus driving experience preferred for behind-the-wheel training.
- Completion of state-certified instructor training or company-approved trainer certification program.
- Knowledge of student transportation regulations and state/federal safety requirements.
- Valid driver's license, medical certificate, and school bus driver certification as required.
- Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

- School transportation operations and routing practices.
- Two-way radio and transportation communication systems.
- Driver safety, compliance, and accident prevention practices.
- Recordkeeping, reporting, and documentation accuracy.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, sit, reach, bend, stoop, and use hands.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to perform emergency bus evacuations.
- Ability to meet vision and hearing requirements necessary for safe vehicle operation and training activities.
Work Environment
- Combination of office, training, and field environments.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, diesel fumes, noise, and moderate dust.
- Must be able to work outdoors and tolerate seasonal temperatures, including summer heat.
- May require evening or weekend work as needed.
