About the Role

The Safety Trainer is accountable for planning, coordinating, and directing training for assigned functional areas. This role regularly requires eliciting results directly from groups of trainees of varying sizes.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with management and Safety Manager to determine training requirements.
  • Formulates training programs and schedules based on identified training needs for new or existing processes, programs, and procedures, including:
    • Pre-employment driver skills screening
    • Driver orientation
    • Equipment usage
    • Driver proficiency review
  • Plans, develops, and conducts safety and hazardous waste handling training programs for employees, with particular attention to higher-risk positions.
  • Selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods (e.g., individual or group training, presentations, demonstrations, simulation exercises).
  • Organizes and develops training manuals, reference libraries, and testing/evaluation procedures.
  • Plans and conducts training events and tests trainees to measure progress and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Recommends employees for participation in internal training programs.
  • May perform off-site safety observations.
  • Documents compliance and enforcement of federal and state agencies such as DOT and OSHA.
  • Provides broad health, safety, and environmental compliance services as a backup in the absence of regular safety and compliance staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Three years of related experience and knowledge of safety practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Understanding of technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications, and programs in position-related areas (e.g., DOT laws and regulations).
  • Awareness of current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Commercial Driver’s License required upon hire or within six months of hire.
