Safety Specialist, Senior

About the role

As a Senior Safety Specialist at Busch Gardens, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and environmental compliance of the park. Your responsibilities include assisting in the development and instruction of EHS environmental-related training courses, conducting inspections, and participating in various EHS inspections.

Responsibilities

• Assist with developing, maintaining, and instructing EHS environmental-related training courses for ambassadors at Busch Gardens and Adventure Island.
• Participate in EHS inspections focusing on compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
• Conduct inspections of work areas and ambassadors for compliance, audit vehicles and equipment for inspections, review training records, and chemical inventories and proper storage.
• Complete daily, weekly and monthly regulatory inspections of the hazardous waste facility, collection sites, UST/AST, oil/grease containers, generators and any other potential pollution source.
• Collect environmental data and enter into excel or other computer software.
• Absorb and develop EHS projects.
• Attend department meetings and general EHS sensitive meetings.
• Conduct work required to maintain the hazardous waste facility and satellite accumulation sites.
• Provide exceptional, professional guest service in a team environment.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with Ambassadors, Vendors, and our Guests.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, Risk Management or a related field preferred.
• 2 years of experience in EHS or a related field preferred.
• Must be certified as a CPR/First Aid/AED trainer or willing to become certified.
• Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Certified competent person preferred.
• Theme park experience preferred.
• Ability to meet company driving guidelines.
• Ability to communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
• Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed.
• Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing).
• Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in varying weather, to include extreme heat.
• Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors, and cold/heat temperature extremes.
• Perform cleaning duties, including use of cleaning chemicals.
• Work a flexible schedule/hour based on business need, to include opening, mid-, and closing shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities.
