Position Overview

Assists in the development and administration of LRWRA safety program, safety training and related safety activities. Assists in the development and publication of safety policies and procedures. Maintains a safe work environment for all employees.

Examples of Duties

  • Safety and related programs - Assists in the development of goals, priorities, and objectives for safety and safety related training.
  • Coverspecialized training by outside vendors when necessary.
  • Maintains employee safety and training records.
  • Responds to questions and resolves employee concerns regarding health and safety.
  • Works with supervisor on the development and implementation of safety incentive and reward programs.
  • Serves as advisor to the safety team.
  • Liaison to community organizations, such as Little Rock Fire Department, Little Rock Police Department, Arkansas Department of Labor & Licensing, Little Rock Emergency Management and MEMS to ensure information and emergency assistance.
  • Works with EHS supervisor to review, maintain and organize documents associated with the health and safety program.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct Emergency Action Response Plan (EARP) drills, including evacuation, shelter-in-place, severe weather, fire, chemical release, and other emergency scenarios.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct workplace exposure monitoring as needed or assigned for noise, atmospheric testing, and other safety or hazardous needs.
  • Coordinates and conducts scheduled and unscheduled work site audits to ensure compliance with LRWRA policies and procedures.
  • Communicates to supervisor and notifies appropriate departmental supervisors of safety violations, concerns, recommendations and outstanding performance recognitions.
  • Works with supervisors, staff, and outside vendors to correct problems and/or recommend improvements or changes in safety procedures or equipment.
  • Supports contractor safety management and ensures contractors comply with site safety requirements.
  • Researches and makes recommendations in the development and/or update of safety-related policies, programs, procedures, or equipment.
  • Conducts and maintains job hazard analysis and related procedures.
  • Assists with the collection, investigation, and analysis of accident and work-related injury/illness data. Prepares reports and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Maintains and responds to alarms at each facility.
  • Fulfills safety practices and guidelines.
  • Assists supervisor as directed.
  • Performs other essential duties as assigned.
  • Subject to call seven days a week with ability to respond in a timely manner in emergency situations.
  • Undertakes any reasonable request within capabilities that is for the good of the community and LRWRA.
  • Represents LRWRA as a member of professional groups and/or associations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Required: Associates degree from an accredited college or university. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint applications.
  • Knowledge of safety programs such as accident prevention, pulmonary health, hearing conservation, industrial hygiene, HazMat, trenching and shoring, competent person, traffic control, safety incentive programs, etc.
  • Knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations, laws, and codes pertaining to safety functions.
  • Knowledge of methods used in the investigation, analysis, and reporting of safety incidents.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping principles and practices.
  • Ability to write reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to make presentations before groups.
  • Ability to conduct effective training on a variety of subjects.
  • Ability to interpret, explain, and apply applicable laws, codes, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to document policies and procedures.
  • Ability to schedule projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • Experience in wastewater industry is preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Certifications in safety programs such as accident prevention, pulmonary health, hearing conservation, industrial hygiene, HazMat, trenching and shoring, competent person, traffic control, etc.
