Safety Specialist I (Transmission & Distribution)
About The Role
Safety Specialists work closely with field staff, clients and subcontractors, all levels of management, and personnel from external organizations during all phases of electric construction projects. Safety Specialists must be committed to ensuring adherence to safety-related policies, procedures, and regulations while developing positive professional relationships. This is a location-based position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and requires varying amounts of travel.

Essential Functions
- Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions to ensure a safety focus throughout all phases of electric construction projects
- Cook and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis
- Conduct proactive behavior-based and quality-focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments
- Supporting client-specific safety requirements programs and ensure alignment and compliance between client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety
- Conduct accident/injury investigations including root cause analyses
- Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process, and tool improvements
- Follow-up with Operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles is required
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required
- A minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include: Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- An undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field is preferred; combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Problem-solving and situation analysis skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite programs, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence behavior
- Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry-related safety regulations
- Must be a team player able to work with co-workers, different departments and outside contacts and maintain strong relationships

- Basic understanding of electric construction project management practices and procedures
- Ability to travel for job site visits for extended periods of time
