About the role
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Rest Area Attendant is responsible for cultivating and caring for landscaping and grounds and maintaining the rest area's cleanliness to ensure company standards are met while using the appropriate supplies and equipment in a responsible and efficient manner. Due to contract requirements, priority will be given to persons with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Complete on-site custodial and grounds contract work at the assigned location, including:
- Cleaning bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning lunch/break rooms
- Collecting and removing trash, dusting, cleaning windows, climbing ladders to clean
- Lawn mowing, raking, leaf blowing, picking up trash, grounds upkeep, trimming
- Assist with stripping and waxing floors and carpet cleaning if requested in the contract
- Inform the Supervisor of any maintenance repair or service required immediately upon discovery
- Provide feedback to the Supervisor concerning success/problems associated with the contract
- Submit reports, paperwork, and timecards to the Supervisor in a timely manner
- Ensure the health and safety of staff and visitors at the assigned site
- Properly use and dispose of hazardous materials/chemicals per procedures
- Maintain required safety and first aid supplies; order replacements as needed
- Utilize protective equipment (e.g., gloves, back braces, face shields) when performing the job
- Maintain supplies and custodial equipment according to OSHA standards; report equipment damage
- Start work when scheduled, dress appropriately, and meet job requirements
- Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality based on E.Q.U.I.P. policies and contract requirements
- Assist the Supervisor, Area Manager, and other supervisory staff with additional duties as assigned
- Landscaping duties:
- Cut/mow lawn using hand, power, or riding mower; trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls
- Plant flowers and apply fertilizer to enhance growth
- Remove stumps, fill holes, and apply grass seed as needed
- Remove landscaping debris
- Cut down hazardous tree limbs
- Trim shrubs and pull weeds
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on groundskeeping equipment under supervision
- Rake, mulch, and prune grounds as needed
- Water plants and grass
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One year of relevant experience
- Reliable, responsible, and dependable
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and landscaping methods
- Ability to determine tools and equipment needed for a job
- Ability to operate or learn to operate:
- Riding mower, weed eater, grass edger, chain saw, stump grinder
- Hedge trimmer, leaf blower, wood chipper, lift, pressure washer
- Basic hand and power tools
- Physical abilities:
- Bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and legs
- See details at close range (within a few feet)
- Lift between 25-50 lbs
- Stand and walk for extended periods in inclement weather
- Make repetitive movements
- Work in awkward postures
- Ability to work safely and efficiently
- Ability to operate large equipment following company procedures and safety regulations
