About the role

The Safety Representative ensures field safety programs and policies are in place to promote a safe work environment, coordinating with the project’s management execution team and the Safety Director.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and assist in conducting all weekly safety meetings as scheduled.
  • Conduct daily documented safety inspections to identify and correct hazardous conditions such as noise, toxic substances, and other noticeable hazards.
  • Generate reports of findings during tests with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Implement and remain familiar with jobsite emergency medical response requirements for dealing with injuries.
  • Maintain all required recordkeeping, including reports related to injuries, accidents, near misses, and environmental issues (e.g., safety data sheets, monitoring test results).
  • Maintain all required safety job site postings.
  • Inspect properties, including buildings, industrial operations, vehicles, equipment, and personal protective equipment, to evaluate physical conditions, safety practices, and identify hazardous situations.
  • Observe field personnel while performing duties and report any laxity in safety precautions.
  • Communicate observed or anticipated safety concerns to appropriate field personnel.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to ascertain causes and report to management.
  • Instruct employees on the proper use of safety equipment and safe work methods.
  • Inspect specified areas for safety equipment, including fire prevention equipment, first aid supplies, and additional safety gear.
  • Understand and clearly communicate Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Monitor changes to compliance laws.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and policies (including client’s) while promoting the Company’s safety culture.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in safety within the construction or petrochemical industry.
  • Valid and current certifications in first aid, CPR, and OSHA 30-hour (construction preferred).
  • Working knowledge of applicable construction codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and employees at all levels.
  • Knowledge of all relevant local, state, and federal laws.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents such as scopes of work and project schedules.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling day-to-day information.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels, delivering on commitments—results-oriented.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand and interpret data.
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams).
  • Ability to quickly learn organizational systems.
  • Must be able to work non-routine hours, including nights and weekends, when necessary.
  • Valid, unexpired driver’s license.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for out-of-town assignments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat, humidity, cold, rain, and heavy traffic areas.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, including 8 or more hours.
  • Constant movement to accomplish tasks, including walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, gripping, and climbing.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolds.
  • Ability to walk on beams and narrow surfaces at and above ground level.
  • Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Work includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carrying at least 30 pounds, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
