About the role

A lead safety representative is responsible for ensuring all employees adhere to the core value of safety by implementing and maintaining safety programs. This role involves developing positive professional relationships while working closely with field personnel, management, and outside agencies during all phases of operation. Projects include substation, transmission, and distribution projects, ranging from greenfield to brownfield.

Responsibilities

  • Align company safety philosophy with actual work practices.
  • Uphold the core safety values of the organization.
  • Train field crews and employees on safety expectations.
  • Conduct orientation activities, including completing and checking paperwork on new hires, validating required experience and licensure, and collecting I-9 documentation.
  • Travel to multiple job sites or local offices for orientation.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, damage to property, or other safety-related concerns.
  • Complete incident reports, OSHA-required documentation, and other safety-related reports.
  • Critically assess and evaluate hazards, taking corrective actions promptly.
  • Document findings and communicate with HR, leadership, and field personnel about incidents and recommendations.
  • Verify completion of corrective measures and proactively suggest safety improvements.
  • Develop and maintain programs to encourage safety suggestions and improvements.
  • Enforce safety standards, conduct safety audits, and participate in client safety meetings.
  • Cookordinate with others to enforce work procedures, rules, and regulations related to safety.
  • Communicate safety and health information at employee meetings and post safety communications as needed.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local safety agencies and insurance carriers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • OSHA certification required (30, 502, or 500).
  • Substation or transmission line construction experience.
  • Safety experience is helpful but not mandatory.
  • Strong training and presentation skills.
  • Customer service experience and attitude.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Experience working with electricians or construction trades is beneficial.
  • Able to adhere to a schedule and reliably show up for all scheduled shifts on time.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and attention to detail skills.
  • Computer proficiency is essential.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding, work in confined spaces, and occasionally work in an aerial lift or helicopter.
  • Experience inspecting trenches and excavations, climbing poles, steel towers, and other structures.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, stoop, climb, squat, or walk.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and personal protective equipment appropriate to the assigned work.

Work Environment

The work environment is often outdoors with exposure to weather, including high and low-temperature extremes. There is exposure to hazards of energized power lines and associated equipment. Extensive travel is required in this role.
