About the role
The Safety Manager will plan, direct, implement, and oversee the company's Safety Program, including development of jobsite environmental and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy accident-free work environment. The Safety Manager will oversee all safety and environmental policies and procedures in compliance with Federal, State, County, and local rules and regulations—including SDS and IIPP requirements for both field and office operations.
Responsibilities
- Remain current on all Federal, State, County, and local safety regulations and keep management informed of new or revised regulations and their projected impact to the company.
- Make regular visits to construction and plant sites.
- Provide support to project managers, foremen, and the field team to ensure each construction and plant site is conducting operations in a safe manner for the protection of employees, clients, and subcontractors.
- Schedule, facilitate, and manage all safety and environmental-related training.
- Develop and implement jobsite/project-specific safety plans and effectively communicate with project teams.
- Manage facility response plans and ensure compliance.
- Review subcontractor pre-qualification documentation to ensure acceptable safety records and communicate with project managers and foremen.
- Attend pre-construction safety meetings and develop pre-job hazard analysis to prepare for construction.
- Reduce job hazards, ensure a safe working environment, and identify unsafe conditions.
- Administer the company Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) and each project-specific accident prevention plan.
- Conduct accident, injury, and unsafe work condition investigations.
- Inspect multiple facilities to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
- Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
- Develop health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
- Prepare and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
- Monitor compliance with safety procedures.
- Draft inspection reports to document inspection findings.
- Ensure that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Maintain records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Proficiency in data processing using Windows, Excel spreadsheets, payroll software, Vista Accounting Software, mainframes, and word processing software.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities with concurrent deadlines.
- Must be detail-oriented and perform tasks accurately.
- OSHA experience (1 year preferred).
- Certified Safety Professional (preferred).
- OSHA 30 certification (preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field (preferred).
- Five years of related construction experience (required).
