PRIDE Industries is a fast-paced company dedicated to creating jobs for people with disabilities and providing high-quality, value-added solutions to clients nationwide. We are now seeking a Safety Manager to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment and work practices to ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards
- Develop and provide training in safe work practices, ergonomics, health and environmental practices
- Supervise employees; ensures a competent, motivated team through hiring, training, development, counseling and reviewing the performance of employees
- Maintain professional relationships with customers, assuring support is provided to PRIDE staff in accordance with contracts and resolving safety issues that may inhibit contract performance
- Create, evaluate and educate employees on Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s); Must ensure JSA’s are current and effectively identify potential hazards
- Interact with employees and conduct employee safety, behavior and ergonomic observations and corrective actions to prevent injuries and illness
- Provide reports and advice to the Site Safety Director regarding accidents and employee injuries
- Conduct investigations to determine root causes of violations, injuries and incidents to determine corrective action and prevent recurrence, to be reviewed by the Site Safety Director for accuracy
- Maintain safety program records and compile data for use in reports
- Transport and accompany injured employee’s to a medical facility for treatment
- Conduct, participate and attend regularly scheduled staff, leadership, committee and offsite meetings. Prepare agendas, roster and presentation materials for various meetings
- Establish a leadership role by assisting department Managers and Supervisors to achieve their safety goals by providing direction and technical support
- Assist the Site Safety Director in conducting periodic reviews of the safety process
- Conduct Personal Protective Equipment Inspections
- Bring safety discrepancies to the attention of the Site Safety Director and follow up on actions
- Assist in accident investigations
- Participate in safety recognition activities
- Conduct department inspections to ensure sufficient first aid supplies and equipment are available
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Five or more years of recent safety, health and environmental experience in the applicable site specific operations
- Depending on the worksite, bi-lingual English and Spanish required
- OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, forklift trainer and HAZWOPPER certifications desired
- Ability to interpret and implement applicable laws, regulations and policies
- Knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation system
- Ability to read and understand Insurance Carrier Loss Run information
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- To make presentations and respond to inquiries by management, team, vendors and/or customers
- Human relation skills to build effective relationships with team and internal customers
- Intermediate to advanced computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software
- Knowledge of business English including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation
- Mathematical skills to include the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to establish priorities and solve a wide range of business problems
- Demonstrated customer service, common sense, problem solving and analytical skills
- Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle numerous projects at the same time
Education
- Bachelor's in Environmental Science or related field
- A comparable combination of formal education and work experience will be considered
Physical Requirements
- Utilizing keyboard
- Viewing computer screen
- Bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting and reaching
- May require climbing ladders and/or step stools
- Standing and walking
- Maneuvering in and around the worksite
Work Environment
- Primarily in an office environment with limited privacy and exposure to noise from others conducting business
- The remainder of work is performed on job sites in the field, driving to and from worksite
- Employees may be exposed to hazardous equipment, toxic substances, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat
- Employees may be required to work in excess of 8 hours in a day and/or 40 hours per week
